OBITUARY

Died, October 29, 1898, Albert E. Pike, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Pike, of acute diabetes, after a serious illness of but a few weeks. His death being a surprise to friends and neighbors, as none supposed him to be dangerously ill, for he had been confined to the house for a little over a week.

He was born in Stockland, Devonshire, England, January 25, 1866 and came with his parents to the United States when he was but five years of age. They settled in Worth County, Iowa, where they have resided ever since, and there he grew to a noble manhood, gaining the love and respect of all who knew him. He taught several terms of school in Deer Creek Township, both before and after his marriage. He was a brilliant student, thorough and painstaking, and well liked as a teacher.

On July 25, 1892, in Christ Episcopal Church of Austin, Minnesota, he was married to Miss Emma J. Nixon of Carpenter, Iowa. To them have been born four children, one of whom has preceded him to the better land.

The wife and three children, the youngest an infant of three months, are left without a loving husband and father's care; also his parents, four brothers, six sisters, and other relatives are left to mourn his death. May they learn to know that what is their loss is his gain.

He was a member of the Episcopalian Church of Austin. Funeral services were conducted by Reverend D. J. W S______ville of that place, Tuesday, November 1, 1898 at the home of the deceased. The scripture reading was taken from I Corinthians 15, beginning with the 20th verse, and these words were used as the text: "Wherefore comfort ye one another with these words."

Nearly forty teams followed him to his last resting place in the Ogden Cemetery near Otranto Station. The sympathies of the entire community are with the relatives in their bereavement. May they receive comfort from the one who in his infinite mercy said, "Blessed are they that mourn for they shall be comforted."
