Olaf Solheim, 1903-1995

ST. ANSGAR, Iowa-- Olaf Solheim, 91, of St. Ansgar, and formerly of Devils Lake, North Dakota area, died on Friday, August 18, 1995, at Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar, with the Rev. Stephen Englestad officiating. Burial will be in Lake Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Renwick. Graveside services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Olaf Solheim was born on December 30, 1903 at Benson County, North Dakota.

Visitation is after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar, is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Mabel, of St. Ansgar.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and one sister.

Funeral services for Olaf Solheim, 91, St. Ansgar, formerly of Minnewaukan, North Dakota, who died Friday, August 18, were held Tuesday, August 22, 1995, at First Lutheran Church here with the Reverend Stephen Engelstad and Reverend Robert Porisch officiating.

Olaf Solheim was born December 30, 1903 on a farm near Minnewaukan, North Dakota, Benson County. He was the son of Herlick Olson Solheim and Ragnhild Brye Solheim. He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Minnewaukan. He was active in teaching and choir. Later he and his wife joined Trinity Free Lutheran Church in Minnewaukan and were member at the time of his death.

June 22, 1946 he was united in marriage to Mabel A. Luthro at Eagle Grove with Pastor Joe Luthro officiating. They established their home on the Solheim homestead and continued farming and liveing there through retirement until they purchased a home in St. Ansgar in March, 1995 and moved there in April.

Olaf was a loving and kind husband and uncle, always ready to give a witness for his Lord. He was an ardent hunter and gifted storyteller sprinkled with humor.

He is survived by his wife, Mabel; nieces and nephews; a brother-in-law, Clarence Luthro; a sister-in-law, Myrtle Solheim.

Olaf was preceded in death by four brothers, Carl, Sigerd, Martin and John; one sister, Marjie.

Burial was in the Lake Lutheran Cemetery in rural Goldfield.
