Marit (Lindelien) Nubson, 1850-1942
Mrs. Marit Nubson, 91, died at her home in Cedar Township, Mitchell County, Iowa, on Tuesday, June 23, 1942. With her passing the community loses one of its oldest residents. Mrs. Nubson had lived on the same farm for seventy years.
Marit A. Lindelien was born in Aadalen, Norway on October 30, 1850, the daughter of Anders and Ragnhild Buttingsrud Midt-Lindelien. She was the second oldest of five children, who have all preceded her in death. In 1869, at the age of 18, she immigrated to America with a brother and a sister, remaining in Otter Creek, Wisconsin, for about two years. She then came to Mitchell County, Iowa, where she married Christopher Rustebakke Nubson in 1872. They established a farm home in Cedar Township. Mr. Nubson died in 1893, leaving his widow and eight children.
Mrs. Nubson leaves the following survivors to cherish her dear memory: one son, Nels C. Nubson of Carrington, North Dakota; five daughters: Mrs. Lauritz (Rachel) Norby and Mrs. Carl (Martha) Field of Osage, Mrs. Gunia Ask of Mitchell; Lena and Alma Nubson at home. Also surviving are six grandchildren: Mrs. Edwin (Thelma) Jellum, Mrs. Clifford (Katherine) Larson, Sanford Fosholt, Stanley Ask, Marjorie and Norman Nubson and three great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two children who died in infancy; a son, Alfred Norman who died in 1935, and a daughter, Mrs. Harold (Anne Marie) Fosholdt of Rudd, who died in 1939.
Mrs. Nubson was baptized and confirmed during her youth in her native land. Since coming to Mitchell County, she was a member of the Rock Creek Lutheran Church and was a charter member of the Ladies’ Aid there. She was a true Christian and attended services as long as her strength permitted. She was a kind mother, a faithful friend and neighbor, and she will be greatly missed. Funeral services were held last Thursday afternoon at Rock Creek Lutheran Church, with burial in the Rock Creek cemetery. The Rev. C.B. Gunderson officiated.
