Funeral services for longtime Mitchell resident, Mrs. Art (Bella) Houghtaling, 87, are Wednesday, April 15, 1984 at 2 p.m., at Faith Lutheran Church in Mitchell. Rev. Charles Bunk will officiate at the service with burial in the First Lutheran Cemetery in St. Ansgar. Mrs. Houghtaling died Monday, April 23, 1984 at Mitchell County Memorial Hospital following a month long illness.

Bella Jeanette Severson, daughter of Andrew and Julia Severson, was born August 3, 1896 on a farm near Carpenter. She was the oldest of four children. She completed eighth grade at the Willow Grove school and furthered her education at the Cedar Valley Seminary in Osage and the Institute of Business in Des Moines.

She was united in marriage to Arthur Houghtaling on October 6, 1920 and they farmed near Mildred, Minn., until 1930, later farming in the Mason City vicinity. The family moved to Mitchell in 1939. She was the postmaster in Mitchell until her retirement in 1966 at the age of 70.

She was a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Joe (Lois) Mostek of Mitchell and Mrs. Russel (Mary Alice) Shaw of Brainerd, Minn.; 12 grandchildren, Mrs. Don (Mindy) Meyerhofer of Osage, Mrs. Gary (Marcia)Gadacz of South Bend, Ind., Mrs. Bernie (Maureen ) Havlovic of Kanawha, Joseph Jr., James, Daniel, Connie and Julieanne Mostek, all of Mitchell, Mrs. Jeff (Kimberly) Johnson, Mrs. Kelly (Kay) Buth and Karen Shaw, all of Minneapolis, and Charles Shaw of Brainerd, Minn.; six greatgrandchildren, Matt, Sara and Andrew Havlovic, Robert and Michael Meyerhofer and Peter Shaw,; two sisters, Laura McGillivray Rustad of St. Ansgar and Alice Boston of Waterloo.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur; her parents and a brother, Orvie Severson of Carpenter.
