OSAGE, IOWA — Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Champion Funeral Home, for Matthew Evans, 60, who died Thursday of pneumonia at his home in Osage. Burial will be in the Osage city cemetery.

He had been in poor health for some time, and contracted influenza about ten days prior to his death.

Matthew Evans Is Victim of Illness

Matthew Evans, 60, died at his home in the Third Ward Thursday morning, October 4, after many years of illness. He was confined to his bed all last winter, but was able to be out this summer. Thursday, September 25, he went uptown with his son, Pfc. Chester Evans, and complained of not feeling well upon his return home. He was then confined to his bed with influenza, which developed into pneumonia the day before his death.

Matthew Evans was born at Spirit Lake on may 17, 1885, the son of Matthew and Retta Evans. His parents come to Mitchell County when he was one and a half years old. He attended Mitchell schools.

Mr. Evans was united in marriage to Emma J. Fox at New Hampton in 1909. They purchased a home in Osage in 1914 and had spent all the rest of their married life here with the exception of two years when they lived in North Dakota.

Surviving are his widow; four children Leo, of Woodward, Mrs. Blanche Baker and Thelma at home, and Pfc. Chester, who is stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia; two brothers, John, of Balsam Lake, Wisconsin, and Arthur, of Waterloo; a sister, Lizzie Wilkins of Centuria, Wisconsin; a half-brother, George Davis, of Spokane, Washington and a half-sister, Mrs. Jessie Boe of Mitchell.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Champion funeral home with the Reverend Wallace Anderson officiating. Burial was in Osage Cemetery.
