Kenneth D. Helfter, 16, Osage, died Saturday night when his car collided with a converted school bus camper on Iowa 9 about six miles east of Osage. The driver of the camper, Robert Halliday, 33 Duncombe, escaped injury.

Services Set For Osage Traffic Victim

OSAGE, IOWA — Services for Kenneth D. Helfter, 16, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Helfter of Osage will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in St Peter's Catholic Church in New Haven.

Kenneth died about 7 p. m Saturday when his car crashed into a stopped camper on Hwy 9, about six miles east of Osage. Rosary will be 8 p. m. Monday at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Chisholm Funeral Home at Riceville charge of arrangements.

The state patrol said The state patrol said Kenneth's car veered across center line of the highway and collided with a converted school bus camper.

Robert Halliday, 33, of Duncombe, driver of the camper escaped injury.

Kenneth is survived by his parents; four sisters: Theresa Ellen, Mary and Rebecca, al at home; four brothers: Michael, Francis, Henry and Anthony, all at home; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs Loren Reed of Austin; and his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lorenz Helfter of New Haven.

OSAGE, IOWA - Mitchell County recorded its eighth traffic fatality of the year Saturday in the crash of a sports car and a school bus converted to a camper. Kenneth Donald Helfter, 16, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Helfter of rural New Haven, was killed when his car struck the camper, which was stopped and signaling for a left hand turn from Iowa 9 into Pioneer State Park, authorities said. The accident scene was 6 1/2 miles east of Osage. The youth's car was headed south and veered across the highway, officer's said.

Robert Halliday, 43, of Duncombe, the camper driver, and a man and woman passenger, escaped injury. Young Helfter's death put Mitchell County one ahead of its previous record of seven traffic fatalities in all of 1958.

Besides his parents, he is survived by four brothers and four sisters. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church at New Haven. The rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. today at the church.
