William Dorow

OSAGE, IOWA - He died at Crookston, Minnesota, December 6, 1911.

William Dorow was born December 7, 1835, in Shivelbein, Pommern, Germany. Mr. Dorow came to America in 1886 and settled at Watertown, Wisconsin. In October of that year he married Bertha Reinke of that place. Later he moved to Charles City, Iowa, where he was engaged for some time in business.

In the early seventies, persuaded that Osage offered opportunities, he came to this city where he remained for twenty-five years and more in the butchering business.

Seven children were born to him and his wife, six of whom are yet living: Mrs. Wm. Gorham, Charles F., Mrs. A. F. Grant, William, Mrs. Bertha Dornehl and Henry F. Herman, who passed away in 1891 at the age of fourteen years.

In March of 1886, Mrs. Dorow died. Soon after this, Mr. Dorow moved to Waseca, Minnesota, and established a meat market. But memories of Osage were fresh and after only a short stay he sold out and returned to this city.

In 1895 he was married to Mrs. Mary J. Luker who survives him. After closing out his business here he made his home in Racine, Wisconsin.

At the time of his death he had been, however for quite a while with his son Henry at Ada, Minnesota, being removed to the hospital at Crookston for medical treatment.

The body was brought to Osage Saturday, the 9th, and after a service conducted at the chapel, was laid in its last resting place in the presence of several of his children, his wife and many old friends. So the record of another life has been made and the books closed. Peace be to his ashes and peace to his spirit.
