TWO MCINTIRE PEOPLE DEAD

George E. Decker and Mrs. Martin Leddy
Passed Away

Mr. Decker's Death Was Sudden.

The whole community was shocked and saddened by the news of the sudden demise of George E. Decker at this farm home two miles west and one-fourth mile south of McIntire, Monday evening, April 6. Mr. Decker had returned Monday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock from a visit with him mother and other relatives at Burr Oak and was accompanied home by his mother and sister. It was after the evening meal while the members of the family were talking and visiting that death came so unexpectedly. He was sitting, and had started to make some remark when he suddenly fell forward and breathed his last.

George E. Decker, son of Pete and Erma Decker, was born in Wisconsin Dec. 2, 1876, being 49 years 4 months and 4 days of age at time of death. He leaves his mother, wife, two sons - John and Merle and three daughters, Opal, Garnet and Inez, besides numerous other relatives and friends to mourn his loss. A short funeral service was held at the home Thursday morning, conducted by Rev. Davies of Riceville, and the body was taken to Burr Oak, where services were held at 1:30 p. m. in the Methodist Church.

Interment was made in the Burr Oak cemetery.

George Decker

George Decker was born in Union township [Mitchell county, Iowa]. Although the place of his birth is fine enough for any man, Mr. Decker has been quite inclined to look about. Every spring he takes a trip to Chicago. He was in West Superior before there was any town there.
Had he bought then he might have made big money. He has a brother-in-law in Kansas City who was a soldier. Mr. Decker has been down there. Land near there was so cheap that an improved 160 could be had for $1,600. We would smile to see a man offer Mr. Decker any such price for the 240 acres of fine land he owns in Union township. From forty-two acres of flax he has just sold $970 worth with fifty bushels left in the bin at home. The flax was so clean the buyer took no test. They now haul flax loose in a large box.

Mr. Decker has 105 acres of choice corn. It is so heavy he puts on four horses to cut it and it will go fifty bushels to the acre.

It would please some of our Osage boys and girls to see the great full-blooded St. Bernard dog that treads the power to separate the cream for Mr. Decker.

For two winters, Mr. Decker was a student in the Cedar Valley Seminary and he remembers with interest the old school days. He and Mrs. Decker have just had an interesting picture taken of their farm home. Two wide-awake boys and two lively girls have come to make merry with birds and calves and colts. Martha, Ralph, Reuben and Stella are their names.
