#2:

Mrs. James Murphy

Many times in the past few months death has visited this city and in nearly every case, taken someone who has lived to an old age and spent the greater part of life in this community. The last visit of the Death Angel entered the home of Walter Hall and claimed Mrs. James Murphy the mother of Mrs. Hall, who had for many years made her home with her youngest daughter.

Sallie Judd Murphy was born in South Crosby, Canada, January 15, 1825 and died Thursday night at 10 o'clock, May 19,1904. She has thus reached the long life of 79 years and four months.

She was united in marriage to James Murphy of Brockville, Canada, December 11, 1912. The husband passed away ten years ago last January.

A few years after marriage they moved to Wisconsin where they lived until 1861, they came to Iowa and located ten miles east of Osage. This was known as their home place. Coming in this early day they were considered among the first residents and they knew well the struggle of pioneer life. In the fall of 1892 they moved to Osage.

The ten children who survive her, were all present to do honor to a kind and loving mother. They are James and Mrs Turner of Columbia, S. D.; Mrs Davenport of Aberdeen, S.D.; Mrs. Frank Judd of Clear Lake; Albert of Riceville; Harry of Iowa City; Fred of Waterloo; Arthur of Chicago; John and Mrs Walter Hall of this city.

Those who have known her longest, speak of her most tenderly. The world as well as the home is richer because of her noble motherhood. When a good mother dies, we feel with the loved ones a common loss. May her life ever remain with this family as a bendiction and an exhortation to the highest.

The funeral services were held at the home of the daughter, Mrs. Walter Hall, at 12 o'clock, Sunday, conducted by Rev. Clark of the Methodist church after which the remains were taken to Brownville, her old home and laid beside those of her husband. Her six sons acted as bearers.
