Final Rites For Charles Berg Wednesday
Charles G. Berg, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gunder Gunderson Berg, was born Sept. 19, 1872, in Grue, Solor, Norway and passed away Sunday evening, April 6th at a Minot hospital having been admitted that morning after suffering a severe heart attack. He was the youngest of a family of nine children.
Mr. Berg was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith in Grue, Solor church. He came to America in 1891, locating in Mona, Iowa. Here he married Otilde Gustava Thompson on November 25, 1900. They came to Velva in 1902 homesteading about three miles north of town. After leaving the farm he was employed for many years by the Soo Line Railroad.
Mr. and Mrs. Berg celebrated their Golden Wedding on Nov. 25, 1950 with Open House at their home in Velva.
Left to mourn his passing are three sons: Thorman of Monrovia and Charles of Rivera, California; Gerald of Beach; four daughters, Mrs. Chas. Rosenkranz of Lewiston, Idaho; Mrs. A.W. Ueckert of Beach; Myrtle and Grace of Velva. Also six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. His wife preceded him in death on February 11th of this year.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 9th for Mr. Berg in the Oak Valley Lutheran church with Rev. F.C. Astrup officiating. Lorraine Thompson and Clarice Ulberg sang with John Colby at the organ. Pallbearers were John and Fred Robinson, Ralph Schalow, Virgil Christenson, Clarence Miller and Leonard Borreson.
