Eugene Blake, 1920-1999

ADAMS, MINNESOTA - Eugene Ray Blake, 79, of Adams, died Friday, December 3, 1999, at the Adams Health Care Center.

He was born March 7, 1920, near Meyer, Iowa in Mitchell County, the son of Carl and Mary (Durben) Blake. He grew up in the Meyer area, attending local schools. He served in the Air Force during World War II from January 1942 to August 1945.

On May 28, 1946 Eugene was united in marriage to Mildred Smith at St. John's. . . . [Later] they moved to Rochester and he worked for Mayo Systems, retiring in 1986. In 1994, they moved to Adams. During his lifetime, he was a past Post Commander of the American Legion Post 146 in Adams; a lifetime member and past Post Commander of VFW Post 1215 in Rochester; a past member of American Legion Post 569 in Stacyville, Iowa.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Forty-Miler Barbershop Chorus, several church choirs and an active member of AA clubs.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mildred; son Kevin and his wife Denise of Johnsburg, Minnesota; daughters Beverly Blake, Minneapolis; Lois Thompson and husband Steven, Dodge Center, Mary Hamilton and husband Roger, Rochester, Grace Mayer and husband Kevin, Mantorville, Bonnie Partridge and husband Frank, Richland Center, Wisconsin, Lori Miller and husband Michael, LaCrosse, Wisconsin, Lisa Perthel and husband Steven, Adams; 19 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; sister Vera Adams and husband Jim, Stacyville, Iowa; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Othmar, a sister Grace, a niece and nephew.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 7, 1999 at St. Johns Catholic Church in Johnsburg, Minnesota, with the Rev. Gregory Lief officiating.

Interment will be at St. Johns Catholic Cemetery with the Adams; American Legion Post No. 146 and the Rochester VFW Post No. 1215 in charge of Military rites.
