Galen Naber

CARPENTER, IOWA - Galen Naber, 57, of Carpenter, died Tuesday (Jan. 26, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Deer Creek Lutheran Church, Carpenter, with the Rev. Kathy Larson officiating. Burial will be in the Newberg Cemetery, Carpenter.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar.

Galen was born on Sept. 8, 1941, in Osage, to Marion and Hattie Smith Naber. He attended school in Carpenter and St. Ansgar, graduating in 1960.

He married Sheryl Tett in 1962 at the Little Brown Church, Nashua.

Galen worked all of his life in the auto and oil related businesses. He had been with Cen-Pe-Co since 1985. Galen served on the Carpenter City Council for a number of years serving most recently as mayor.

Galen loved his four grandsons, enjoying the time he spent with them. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed visiting with neighbors and friends. Galen was proud of maintaining his sobriety.

He enjoyed the outdoors with canoeing and biking. Galen liked playing cards and was devoted to the Minnesota Vikings.

Galen is survived by his wife, Sheryl, of Carpenter; one son, Kevin Naber, of Normal, Illinois; one daughter, Julie Wilson, of Mondovi, Wisconsin; four grandsons, Christopher, Adam and Nickolas Wilson and William Naber; one brother, Kenneth Naber, of Chickasaw, Alabama; and one sister, Janice Racel, of Roanoke, Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Donald.
