Douglas A. Faas, 1960-1996
STACYVILLE, IOWA - Chief Warrant Officer Douglas A. Faas, 35, serving with the U.S. Army in Wuerzburg, Germany, and formerly of Stacyville, died Saturday, August 10, 1996, due to a brain stem hemorrhage in Germany.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 22, 1996, at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville, with the Rev. Joseph Schneider officiating. Burial will be in the Visitation Cemetery.
Champion Funeral Home, Osage, is in charge of arrangements.
He was born October 20, 1960, in Osage, the son of John and Monica (Rogers) Faas. Douglas attended Visitation Catholic School in Stacyville and graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1979.
He married Julie Smith on October 30, 1982, in Salinas, Calif.
CW2 Douglas A. Faas entered the United States Army on July 31, 1979, and attended basic training at Fort Dix, New Jersey.
He attended advance individual training at Fort Lee, Va., and trained as a personal management specialist. His first duty assignement was at Fort Ord, California.
In 1983, he attended the Counter Intelligence Agent course at Fort Huachuca, Arizona.
From 1983 to 1986, he was assigned to the 205th and 165th MI BN in Frankfurt, Germany. From 1986 to 1990, he served with the Los Angeles Field Station with the 902nd MI BN.
In 1990, he attended the Warrant Officers course at Fort Rucker, Alabama. Upon graduation of the Warrant Officers course, he attended the Defense Language Institute, Presidio of Monterey, California, for German language training.
Upon graduation from DLI, he served as a Counter Intelligence agent in Mainz, Germany, and served with the Berlin Brigade in Macedonia.
Chief Faas served as the Special Agent in Charge for the Mainz MI Field Office and upon its closure, he became the Detachment Commander for the Wuerzburg Military Intelligence Detachment, 66th MI Group (Provisional).
Survivors include his wife, Julie; son, Nathan; and daughter, Brianna, all of Wuerzburg, Germany; parents, John and Monica Faas of Stacyville; four sisters, Diane Beckman and her husband, Mark, of New Hampton; Denise Mayer and her husband, Bruce, of Stacyville; Debra Schlicht of Fort Dodge; and Doreen Bries and her husband, Rod, of Monona; four brothers, David Faas and his wife, Cathy Sue, of Racine, Minn.; Daniel Faas and his wife, Kathy Jo, of Osage; Donald Faas of Minneapolis, Minn., and Darrell Faas of Glenwood Springs, Colo.; and 18 nieces and nephews.
