HITCHCOCK, Jennie Lyn Bartholomew 1874-1947

OSAGE, IOWA - Rev. Jennie Bartholomew, Hitchcock, wife of Arad Hitchcock, died at her home at 514 North Seventh street in Osage Wednesday of a chronic heart condition.

Born at Bardolph, Illinois and taught school for a number of years, later entering Lombard College at Galesburg, Illinois. to prepare herself for the ministry. She was ordained into the Universalist ministry at her home church at Table Grove, Illinois. Upon her graduation in 1904, served in parishes at Pecatonica, Illinois, Boone, and Mitchellville, Iowa. Later coming to Osage where she served the Universalist church for three years.

She was married to Arad Hitchcock of Osage January 1, 1913. They resided for a number of years on a farm three miles southeast of Osage, but due to Mrs. Hitchcock's failing health retired, moving to Osage in 1937.

She was a member of the Shakespearean club and the First Osage Naturalist's club. She was the oldest of nine children.

She leaves her husband and five sisters: Mrs. Georganna Baily, St. Louis, Missouri, Mrs. Nelora Walker, Lewiston, Illinois, Mrs. Harriett Ferre, DeWitt; Mrs. Adah Perkins, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Mrs. Mattie Boushong, who has been with her for the last year.

Funeral 2 p.m. Monday at the Champion Funeral Home, burial in Osage Cemetery.
