Osage, Iowa - Funeral rites are scheduled tentatively for Monday afternoon at the Champion funeral home for a long time resident, Mrs. R. J. Godfrey, 82, who died at a nursing home in Philadelphia, Pa., late Thursday evening, having been in failing health for some time. Burial in the Osage cemetery in the family lot.
Born January 13, 1866, of Josiarius and Lucine Welch, as Cora Mae Welch, Charles City. As an infant she accompanied her parents to a farm near Orchard. She was married October 5, 1882 to Robert J Godfrey. They lived on Godfrey home farm east of Orchard until coming to Osage in 1906. Here her husband died in 1945 and she continued to live here until last year, when she left for Philadelphia to be near two children.
She leaves two sons, Warren, Osage; Howard, Philadelphia; one daughter, Mrs. Guy C. Pierce, Philadelphia; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; a brother, Cyrus Welch, Minneapolis, Minn. and three sisters, Mrs. Daisy Godfrey, Osage; Mrs. Harry Kenny, Minneapolis, and Mrs. Minnie Ostrum, Minneapolis, Minn.
Preceding her in death also were the following brothers and sisters; Mrs. Lilla Cheney; Mrs. Nettie Hudson; Mrs. Bertha Kennison, and Matt, Harley and Wiley Welch.
