Gilbert J. Gilbertson was born at Clinton, Rock county, Wisconsin, September 4, 1843. In 1861 he came with his parents to the farm south of St. Ansgar, Iowa, where he has since resided.

On September 4, 1868, he was united in marriage to Ragnild Haugrud. Seven children were born to them, Louise, Mina, Nellie, James, George, Lewis and Annie. His wife and two daughters, Louise and Annie have preceded him into the great beyond. The rest of the children were at his bedside when he slept peacefully away on the evening of January 12, 1923. The cause of his death was pronounced old age.

Of a quiet and retiring disposition, he was loving and considerate in all the relations of home life. He was loved and respected by all who knew him.

The funeral was held at the home on Monday afternoon, January 15. Christian Science services were conducted by Mrs. Grace Hill, of Osage. Wm Groth, of St. Ansgar, rendered two beautiful vocal solos.

The beautiful floral offerings betokened the love and esteem of friends and neighbors.

He was laid to rest in the Norwegian Lutheran cemetery.
