Charles Olaf Peterson, 1914-1973

Last rites were held Saturday afternoon for a well-known Osage man, Charles Peterson, 59, who died December 20, 1973 at Mitchell County Memorial Hospital. He had been ill for the past two months and had been confined to a Rochester hospital for a time.

The Rev. Robert Floy, church pastor, was in charge of the rites at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage. Arrangements were by C.R. Champion and Sons and burial was in the Rock Creek Lutheran cemetery, where the American Legion Memorial Squad conducted rites.

Charles Olaf Peterson was born at Meroa on October 16, 1914, the son of Nickolai and Olava Docken Peterson. He spent his childhood in Mitchell County. Mr. Peterson was a veteran of service in World War II, and was a member of the American Legion Post 278. He was a lifelong member of the Lutheran church, was a charter member of the Legion Memorial Squad, and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7920.

Eilene Lane and Charles Peterson were married on Christmas Day 1937 in Osage, Iowa and they lived in Osage and for a time in San Jose, California. He was employed as a salesman for Olson Motor here at the time he became ill.

Preceding him in death were his parents and one brother, Marion Nils Peterson.

Survivors include his wife, Eilene; two daughters, Mrs. David (Charlene) Smith of Osage and Cheryl Peterson of Rapid City, SD; as well as one granddaughter, Julie Smith.
