Emma Emerson dies at Little Cedar

LITTLE CEDAR — Funeral services are set tentatively for Thursday afternoon at the Little Cedar Methodist Church for Mrs. Emma Emerson, age 81.

She died Monday evening at the home of her son, Clell, near Little Cedar. Burial will be in the Little Cedar Cemetery with Champion Funeral Home, of Osage, in charge.

Born as Emma McPhail, April, 1878, near Mitchell, she was the daughter of Robert and Mary McPhail. She was married to Sylvester McPhail** in October, 1898.

Surviving are her son and a grandson.

** Note: The newspaper did say "Sylvester McPhail," but it is believed that was an error, and he was really "Sylvester Emerson." The 1910 Mitchell co. Federal census shows a Sylvester Emerson living in Liberty township, and 32 years old, which would make him the same age as Emma.

It also shows a Robert McPhail, age 65, living in Liberty twp.
