Funeral services for Miss Alma Groth, 79, who died at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center, Saturday, January 11, 1969 were held Tuesday, January 14, 1969 at the First Lutheran church with the Rev. Don Comnick officiating.

Alma Grace Groth was born March 16, 1889 at the old Groth homestead north of St. Ansgar, the daughter of Jacob and Cecelia (Halstenson) Groth. She was baptized May 12, 1889 and confirmed October 18, 1903 at the First Lutheran church.

Miss Groth received her early education at the Clyde school and later attended the St. Ansgar Seminary. She remained at home and assisted in the care of her aged grandmother and helped her parents on the farm. Following the death of her parents, Alma and her sister, Clara, were both mother and father to the rest of the family.

In 1930 Alma and Clara moved to their home in St. Ansgar. Alma was a lifelong member of the First Lutheran church and was active in the women's organizations of her church. She was honored with a life membership in the First Lutheran Church Women, and her special interest was her circle. She was a charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary in St. Ansgar and an active member of the organization.

Alma fell early in 1968 and was taken to Mitchell County Memorial hospital, Osage, later transferred to the Good Samaritan Center. She was again hospitalized in December but returned to the Center where she died at the age of 79 years, ten months and six days.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Wm. and Adolph and sister, Clara. She is survived by one brother, Joseph C. Groth, Austin, Minn.; three nieces, Mrs. Vernon Wilkerson, Washington, D.C.; Mrs. Kenneth Peterson, Rockford, Ill. and Miss Janet Groth, New York City;; three nephews, William J. Groth, Independence; Joseph C. Groth, Jr., New York City and Gaylord Groth, Boulder, Colo.

Burial was in First Lutheran Cemetery with Rev. Comnick in charge of committal services.
