ASSOR "CONRAD" GROTH

Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 29, 1992 at First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, for A. Conrad Groth, 87, of St. Ansgar, who died Sunday, July 26, 1992 at the Good Samaritan Center. Rev. Stephen Engelstad officiated. Burial was in the First Lutheran Cemetery, St. Ansgar.

Assor Conrad Groth was born March 14, 1905 in Meltonville, Worth County, Iowa, to Anton C. Groth and Ida Gunderson Groth. He was the eldest of seven children. Conrad was a graduate of St. Ansgar High School and of Hamilton College of Commerce, Mason City. He was employed for many years at the Oliver Tractor Plant in Charles City, commuting most of the time from his parent's home in St. Ansgar where he lived and provided assistance in caring for them. Conrad served his country in World War II, serving from May 20, 1942 to August 24, 1945 in both Alaska and Central Europe.

Conrad became an avid reader and gardener and cultivated hybrid iris that became a part of a showplace garden in the area. He was an active member of several genealogy groups including the Hallinglaget of America, Solorlag and Vesterheim. He assisted his father, Anton in the publication of the Groth family record in 1934. He has continued to keep his father's and grandfather's collection together. Conrad was a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his brother, Norris S. Groth and two brothers who died in infancy.

Survivors inclede two brothers, Albin J. Groth, Taylor, Wisconsin, and Claire H. Groth, Minnetonka, Minnesota; one sister, Ardella Groth Warrington and husband, Clifford of St. Ansgar; ten nieces and nephews, 16 great nieces and nephews and six great great nieces and nephews.

Schroeder and Sites of St. Ansgar was in charge of arrangements.
