Frances J. (Duncan) Chambers, 1882-1921

Frances J. Chambers, was born in Unison county, Vermont, Jan. 22, 1882. She was the daughter of Henry Duncan and Caroline Boynton Duncan. She moved with her parents Cooksville Wis. when she was 17 years of age and completed her education at the normal school of Plattsbur, Wis. While attending school there she became especially interested in the religion of Jesus Christ and her whole subsequent life was dominated by a passion for her Master.

She was married to John D. Chambers in the year 1867, and made Mitchell her home ever after. Here she joined the Congregational church and for more that half a century was at all times a competent and earnest worker in the church and Sabbath school, as a teacher in which she had especial gifts and as a pupil in her class, I can testify to her marvelous efficiency. During those fifty years of service in the Sabbath school, perhaps hundreds of the pupils have gone out into the world, scattering the precious seed she had sown. Many now from the school in which she taught rever the memory of her loving service.

Regularly in her seat at divine worship, she was an inspiration to her pastor. April 22nd, she passed away peacefully at the home of her sister, Mrs. S. W. Melendy, in Minneapolis. Her remains are at rest in beautiful Oak Grove cemetery at Mitchell, Iowa.

Funeral services were held in her old home where she had resided for more than half a century. Rev. O.M. Van Sweringen officiating.

The deceased is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Nellie Blackman and Mrs. Adele Melendy, both of Minneapolis, Minnesota, a daughter, Mrs. A. D. Smith, of Fulton, Missouri, and a granddaughter, Mrs. O.N. Peay, of Little Rock, Arkansas.
