Elmer Frederick Lutz, 1900-1929
Elmer Frederick Lutz, eldest son of Harry and Anna Schmidt Lutz, was born in Waterman, Illinois, June 14, 1900, and came to Mitchell County with his parents in the spring of 1906.
Here he attended the public school and grew to manhood, loved and respected by all. He was baptized in infancy in the German Lutheran Church at Hinckley, Illinois, and in early youth, with his parents, united with the Congregational church at McIntire. He was also a member of the Mystic Workers at McIntire.
Elmer was an energetic young man of good moral character and endeared himself with his employers, and was a favorite in the various homes where he has lived.
He was taken ill of typhoid fever early in June, while working with a bridge gang near Osage, and went to his father's home, north of McIntire, where he was lovingly cared for; yet he steadily grew worse and was taken, June 28, to the St. Joseph hospital in New Hampton, Iowa, where all in the reach of medical science was done for him. There he passed to his reward, July 18, 1929, aged 29 years and 24 days.
His mother preceded him to the great beyond August 28, 1917.
He leaves to mourn his passing his father, Harry Lutz; two sisters, Mrs. Frank Reeves and Miss Estella Lutz; and a brother, Leonard Lutz, all of McIntire, Iowa, besides many relatives and friends.
The body was taken to the family home July 19 and on the 20th, after a short service at the house, was taken to the Methodist church at McIntire, where services were conducted by Rev. Mr. Felter.
Interment was made beside his mother in the Wayne cemetery. The pallbearers were schoolmates and childhood friends: Perry Carter, Bob Dunlay, Ray Jordan, Hugh Carter, Myron Starry, Gene Buswell.
The numerous floral offerings were but a mute testimony of the esteem in which he was held in this community.
