Thorvald (Tom) Lindley
Thorvald Olson (Tom) Lindelien, son of Ole and Kari Hansdatter Enger Lindelien, was born in Norway in 1868. He came with his parents, brothers, and sister to America in 1869. They settled in Cedar Township, Mitchell County, Iowa near his father's brother, Levor Olson Lindelien, who had immigrated years before. The family surname was changed to Lindley.
Tom lived with his parents in Cedar Township until he grew to manhood, when he purchased a farm in Rock Township with his brother Henry. They farmed in partnership until six years ago when he moved to Osage and lived with his brother Gilbert.
He bought a farm in Osage Township with his brother Gilbert and they worked together for six years until Tom became ill and lost his strength. They sold their property and Tom went to live with his brother, Henry, in Rock Township.
He suffered a stroke on November 1, and died November 2, 1943. His two brothers and his nephew, Oscar Lindley, were at his bedside. He was buried Friday, November 5, 1943 in the family lot in Rock Creek cemetery. The Rev. C. Blaine Gunderson conducted the service.
