MRS. IRVIN J. OLSON DIES
AFTER YEARS ILLNESS AT OSAGE

OSAGE, IOWA - Mrs. Irvin J. Olson, 47 died Wednesday night at her home after a years illness. She was born on a farm west of Osage and spent all her life there. In 1915 she married Irvin Olson.

Surviving are her husband and two foster sons, Gene, Osage; and Linton, Waterloo.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Note: The two foster sons mentioned in this article, Gene (whose name was actually spelled Jean, and who was born in 1915), and Linton, who was born in 1917, were both children of Karl and Helga (Bang) Miller. Their mother died in 1919. The boys did use the surname Olson. Their sister Elfrieda (nee Miller) Uzlik who was born in 1908 in Norway was raised by Chris and Dora Goplerud.

Cora Odella Krogstad was born March 26, 1895 Rock, Mitchell, Iowa to Olavus O. Krogstad and Karine Larsdatter Ask, the sixth of their seven children.

Cora was baptized on April 21, 1895 at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church at Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa. Her baptismal sponsors were: Mr. & Mrs. Ole Ask; Gabriel Docken and Tilda Ask.

Found in the 1900 - 1910 censuses at Rock, Mitchell, Iowa:

1900: Ole O Crookstad 47, Carrie Crookstad 43, Oscar Crookstad 19, Tilda Crookstad 16, Anton Crookstad 13, Gustav Crookstad 11, Olga Crookstad 8, Cora Crookstad 5, Selma Crookstad 1.

1910: Ole O Krogstad 57, Karen Krogstad 53, Gustav E Krogstad 21, Olga A Krogstad 18, Cora O Krogstad 15, Selma E Krogstad 12.

Cora married Irvin Julius Olsen in 1915 at probably Rock Creek Lutheran, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa.

The couple had two stillborn children who were both buried at RCLC Cemetery -- Kathleen Clarice (born/died January 26, 1918) and baby boy (b/d 1927, see Findagrave Memorial # 99561162.)

They then took in two foster boys who they may have adopted. (Diane’s notes give more info about these two boys)

Found in the 1920 census at Rock, Mitchell, Iowa: Irvin J Olsen 27, Cora Olsen 24, Jean Olsen 4 yrs, 2 mos,, Linton Olsen 2 yrs 8 mos.

Found in the 1925 census at Webster City, Hamilton, Iowa: Irving Olsen 32, Cora O Olsen 30, Jean H Olsen 9, Linton M Olsen 7, Lillie C Olsen 17, Wanda L Orr 18. *****

Found in the 1930 census at St Ansgar, Mitchell, Iowa: Irvin Olson 38, Cora Olson 35, Jean Olson 14, Linton Olson 12, Lloyd Hansen 19.

Cora died August 19, 1942 at Osage, Mitchell, Iowa and was buried at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church Cemetery, Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa.
