Zoe Mayer, 82, dies at Osage; Rites Pending

Osage: Funeral arrangements are pending at the Champion Funeral Home for Mrs. Zoe Rose Mayer, 82. She died Friday at the Mitchell County Memorial Hospital after an illness of several weeks.

Born Zoe Cornell, January 14, 1879, at Ossian, she was the daughter of Alphonso and Rosaltha Cornell. She attended Valder Normal School, Decorah and Iowa State Teachers College. She taught school before and after her marriage to Henry Mayer in 1904. They came to Osage in 1942. Mrs. Mayer was an active member of the D.A.R, Shakespearian Society and the Iowa State Historical Society.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Maurice Champion, Osage; with whom she had lived since the death of her husband; Mrs. V. J. Shankland, Visalia, Calif.; Mrs. Gordon Thatcher, Lyons, Neb.; a son, Cornell Mayer, Falls Church, Va; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. W. M. Allen, Ossian.
