Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 2, 2002 at St. Peter's Catholic Church, New Haven, for Helen E. Smalley, age 89, of Osage. Rev. Ray E. Atwood officiated. Interment was in the St. Peter's Cemetery. Helen died Friday, March 29, 2002 at the Faith Lutheran Home, Osage, Iowa.

Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, Osage, was in charge of arrangements.

Helen was born July 22, 1912 in Alta Vista, IA the daughter of Joseph and Emma (Koudelka) Kobliska. She was united in marriage to Marshall Smalley in 1936. They farmed in Floyd County until Marshall's death in 1974. Helen then moved to New Haven in 1975 and lived there for 16 years before entering the Faith Lutheran Home, Osage, where she had been a resident for the past several years.

She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, New Haven, and was an active member. She enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting and also enjoyed gardening. She was a 4-H leader for many years.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Marshall, and one sister Arlene.

OSAGE, IOWA - Helen E. Smalley, 89, of Osage died Friday (March 29, 2002) at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.

Helen was born July 22, 1912, in Alta Vista, the daughter of Joseph and Emma (Koudelka) Kobliska. She was united in marriage to Marshall Smalley in 1936. They farmed in Floyd County until Marshall's death in 1974. Helen then moved to New Haven in 1975 and lived there for 16 years before entering the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage, where she has been for the past several years. She was an active member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in New Haven. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, and crocheting, and also enjoyed gardening. She was a 4-H leader for many years.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in New Haven, with the Rev. Ray E. Atwood officiating. Interment will be in St. Peter's Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Monday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, 702 State St. in Osage where there will be a Scripture Service at 5 p.m.

Helen is survived by four sisters, Frances Smalley, of Osage, Amy Hennagir, of Charles City, Pauline and husband, Don Nockels, of Mesa, Ariz., Lorraine Talyat, of Pismo Beach, Calif.; niece, Karen Fox and family, of Orchard, nephew, Dave Smalley and wife, Cheryl and family, of Riceville; and many other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marshall, and one sister, Arlene.
