Anna Marie (Kneisel) Lohr, 1827-1904
Anna Marie Lohr, nee Kneisel, was born March 9th, 1827 at Blankenheim, Province Hesse-Nassau, Germany, and died in Nora Springs, Iowa; on September 24, 1904, at the age of 77 years, 6 months, and 14 days. Heart failure was the cause of her sudden death, having been ill only a few days.
In September 1846 she was united in marriage to Conrad Lohr. This marriage was blessed with 8 children of whom 7 survive the mother, one child having died during their voyage across the Atlantic Ocean.
In 1852 they immigrated to this country, living in the state of Ohio for two years, finally coming west to this state and making Cedar Township, Mitchell Co., their home.
In 1895 she with her husband retired from the farm making Nora Springs their home ever since, Mother Lohr was a faithful follower of Jesus from her youth up. It was her delight to study and read God's word, and to make use of all means of grace in working out her soul salvation. She and her aged husband were two of the charter members of the Eden Presbyterian Church 10 miles northeast of Nora Springs since its organization. But while residing in Nora Springs she worshipped God with the United Evangelical congregation.
Her aged husband and seven children, viz., Mrs. Kate Apel, Mrs. Margareta Buckmann, Peter, George and William Lohr, Mrs. Mary Brandau and Miss Amelia Lohr. One brother, John Kneisel and one sister, Mrs. Christine Dietrich; many grand and great grand children, besides many friends are left to mourn the departure of a loved one. She rests in peace.
Services were conducted by Rev. Klooz at the house in the English language, thence to the Eden Presbyterian church where Rev. Bell preached in German assisted by Rev. Klooz, and remains laid to rest at Rock Creek Cemetery.
