OSAGE, IOWA - May 19: Funeral services for Mrs. Joe Heal, who died at her home Saturday, were held yesterday morning at Sacred Heart church by Father Martin.

Catherine Power was born in 1844 in Ireland at Carrick on the Suir. At the age of 15 she came to Syracuse, N. Y., and on Feb. 8, 1872, was married to Joseph Heal. Two years later they came to Osage and purchased the home where she died. Prior to the death of her husband several years ago, they operated a rural store adjoining the dwelling.

Three daughters survive, two sons having died in infancy. The daughters, Mrs. C. E. Rogers; Mrs. Fred Schersach; and Catherine Heal, live here.

Died, After Many
Years of Suffering

Another staunch pioneer of Mitchell County has been called by death, Mrs. Joseph Heal, who lived just west of Osage, and who had been an invalid and patient sufferer for many years.

Catherine Power was born August 14, 1844, in Carrick on Suir, Ireland.

When 15 years of age she left the old home and braved the dangers of the long sea voyage alone, to see her future in the new land of which she had heard such glowing accounts. She came first to Syracuse, N. Y., where her sister and brothers lived, and in the course of time met and married Joseph Heal in the same city, on February 8, 1872. They came to Osage the following year.

Here they bought a home, and later conducted a grocery store up to the time of Mr. Heal's death November 9, 1899.

To this union were born five children, two sons dying in infancy, and the three daughters who survive their mother; Mrs. Ed Rogers, and Mrs. Fred Schersach; and Miss Katherine Heal, who for so many years tenderly cared for her aged mother with untiring love and devotion, ministering to her wants until death brought her relief May 16, 1931.

Mrs. Heal was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church and Father martin was a frequent caller, to bring the comforts of her faith to her, also conducting the last rites at Sacred Heart Church on Monday.

Four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren are also left to mourn her passing. She leaves her family and many friends a wonderful memory of loving deeds of kindness and uncomplaining patience in the long years of suffering she endured.
