Osage, Iowa — George Birum, 69, retired automobile dealer, died Friday at the home of Mrs. Birum's daughter, Mrs. Jack Limbert, in Waterloo of a stroke; Mr. and Mrs. Birum had disposed of their home here and left Thursday enroute to St. Petersburg, Florida, planning to leave Waterloo Saturday.
Mr. Birum was born on January 23, 1878, son of Albert and Carrie (Blue) Birum, Baraboo, Wisconsin. He came to Waverly, Iowa, as a young man, and farmed for some time.
He married Cora Stephens of Waverly, who preceded him in death in 1939. The family came to Osage in 1909, where Mr. Birum entered into partnership with his father and a brother in Birum's cafe. He established the Birum Buick Co., in 1912, retaining ownership until his retirement in 1940, when he sold the business to his son-in-law, Jerry Elman.
He married Mrs. Mabel Brown in 1940.
George leaves his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Frederick Olson, Mason City; Mrs. Jerry Elman, Osage; one son, Stephen, Albert City, Iowa; five grandchildren; and one brother, Fred, Osage.
Also preceding him in death were a brother, Vern, and a sister, Edna.
Funeral services are at 3 p.m. today, at Champion funeral home. Burial will be in the Osage cemetery.
