George Marreel (Died February 7, 2010)

George Marreel, age 91, of Osage, Iowa, died Sunday, February 7, 2010, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 12, 2010, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage with Rev. John Moser officiating. Inurnment will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with a scripture wake service at 6:30 p.m.

George was born July 31, 1918, in Grafton, Iowa, the son of Hector and Hermine (Parmeter) Marreel. He was educated in schools at LeRoy, Minnesota, and in Nebraska. George was married to Rose Kloberdanz on August 5, 1939. He farmed most of his life, living east of Osage for 40 years, and moving to Osage in 1983. He also worked selling chlorinators for 13 years. Rose died October 13, 1989. George was married to Alverna Driscoll in 1991. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and the Knights of Columbus. George enjoyed playing cards at the Senior Center, and spent every Wednesday playing pool with his friends. He served as president of the Senior Center for five years. George loved farming, especially his dairy cattle. Ballroom dancing was another one of George’s loves.

George is survived by his wife, Alverna Marreel of Osage; three children, LaDonna (Larry) Henaman of Osage, Bob (Donna) Marreel of Osage, Dave (Melanie) Marreel of Clear Lake; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Walter (Delores) Marreel of Austin, Minnesota; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by four step-children, Sr. Beth, Tom (Loretta), Mark, Cindy (Terry) McCarthy and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Rose Marreel; four brothers, two sisters; and one great-grandchild.
