OBITUARY: Gladys Maakestad Klemesrud, 1902-1997

OSAGE, IOWA - Gladys Maakestad Klemesrud, 95, died Friday, Nov. 7, 1997, at Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage, with the Rev. Dennis Hanson and the Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Burial will be in Osage Cemetery.

Gladys was born Aug. 14, 1902, in rural Osage.

Survivors include two daughters, Cleone Weaverling of Osage, and Mary Lou Dean of Osage; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, her husband, three brothers and two sisters.

The Champion Funeral Home, Osage, is in charge of arrangements.

Gladys Mable Maakestad was born August 14, 1902 at Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa to Martin Hannanias Maakestad and Emelia Nicolene Himle Nelson, the fourth of their six children.

Gladys was baptized at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church at Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa on September 14, 1902. Her baptismal sponsors were: Lars Berge; Karoline Larson; Leonard Torblaa and Bertine Torblaa. She was confirmed on June 3, 1917 at RCLC.

Gladys married Clarence Godwin Klemesrud on September 20, 1923, at Rock Creek Lutheran, Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa.

The couple had three daughters:
Bonnie Phyllis (b July 7, 1924, d June 24, 1980 Osage, Iowa); two still living in 2014.

1915: Gladys Maakestad age 12.

1925: Clarena G Klemesrud 24, Gladys M Klemesrud 22, Bennie R Klemesrud 6.

1940: Clarence Klemesrude 81 (error, should be 40), Gladys Klemesrude 37, Bonnie Klemesrude 15, Cleone Klemesrude 14, Mary Lou Klemesrude 7.

Clarence and Gladys moved to Osage, Mitchell, Iowa, after retiring from farming.

Gladys M Klemesrud died November 7, 1997 at Osage, Mitchell, Iowa and is buried at the Osage City Cemetery, Osage, Mitchell, Iowa.
