OBITUARY: Mary E. Beyer, 1917-1996
ST. ANSGAR, IOWA -- Mary E. Beyer, 79, of St. Ansgar, died Tuesday, July 2, 1996, at the Nora Springs Care Center, Nora Springs.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Rock Township, Mitchell County, with the Rev. Gregory Bjornstad of Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Grafton officiating. Burial will be in the St. Ansgar Cemetery.
Mary was born Feb. 6, 1917, in Cerro Gordo County to Perry and Alma (Reis) Crooks.
She was united in marriage to Joseph Beyer on April 25, 1934, in Owen Township, Rockford, Iowa. They farmed in Rock Township, Mitchell County, until retirement, moving to St. Ansgar in the fall of 1973. Mary has been a resident at the Nora Springs Care Center since the fall of 1989.
She was a past member of the St. John's Ladies Aid and the Altar Guild, and also taught Sunday School.
She is survived by six sons, Richard Beyer and his wife, Olga, of St. Ansgar, Paul Beyer of St. Ansgar, Joseph Beyer and his wife, Pam, of St. Ansgar, Frederick Beyer and his wife, Jan, of Danville, Ark., Edward Beyer of Orchard, Iowa, and Charles Beyer and his wife, Ruth Ann, of Des Moines; eight daughters, Esther Kanzenbach and her husband, Robert, of Faribault, Minn., Marian Bell and her husband, Steven, of Muskego, Wis., Verona Spooner and her husband, Norman, of Nora Springs, Jorene Gunderson and her husband, Dreng, of Northwood, Leone Kofoot and her husband, Don, of St. Ansgar, Myrna Klemesrud and her husband, Greg, of Charles City, Ruth Evans of Des Moines, and Sharon Brown and her husband, Anthony, of Stacyville; two brothers, Wilbur Crooks of Mason City and Henry Crooks of Dows; 31 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph; one brother, Otto Crooks; and four grandchildren, David Hardwick, Flora Elliot, Fredrick Kanzenbach and Bethany Kofoot.
The Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar, is in charge of arrangements.
