Funeral services for Harry W. Hanson, 87, of rural St. Ansgar, who died at St. Mary’s hospital, Rochester, Minn. January 31, were held February 3 at Schroeder & Dunn Funeral Home with the Rev. Bruce Wittern, pastor of St. Ansgar United Methodist church here, officiating.
Harry W. Hanson was born on a farm near St. Ansgar February 12, 1890, the son of Sam and Amelia Hansen. He attended Spring Valley school, graduated from the St. Ansgar Seminary and went on to study law at the University of Iowa.
In 1913 Mr. Hanson opened an automobile dealership in St. Ansgar, selling Ford, Paige and Saxon cars. He joined the U.S. Navy during World War I, serving as an airplane mechanic.
He met Fay Noven in 1919 in Chicago, Ill. And they were married September 17, 1922, and settled on the farm where he spent his entire life. Mr. And Mrs. Hanson celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary in September of 1977.
Due to a fall which resulted in a fractured hip, Mr. Hanson spent the past five years confined to a wheelchair, the last three of these in a nursing home in Rochester, Minn.
He is survived by his wife, Fay of Rochester; three sons, William Hanson of St. Ansgar; Marlin and Richard Hanson of Northwood; one daughter, Mrs. Dennis (Shirley) Lind of Rochester; also 12 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Mr. Hanson was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mrs. Arthur (Minnie) Sahl.
Burial was in the St. Ansgar cemetery with Rev. Wittern in charge of committal services.
