Hedwig Wilhelmine Louise Kroneman, better known to her friends and relatives as Hattie, daughter of William and Louise, nee Vedder, was born in Rock township, Mitchell county, Iowa on September 24, 1892. She was baptized two days later by her Aunt, Mrs. Gustav Rachut. On March 24, 1907 she was confirmed by Rev. Westenberger at St. John's Lutheran Church where she remained a faithful member all of her life.

She was united in marriage with Otto Steinberg on May 30, 1912 and they lived on the farm where Otto was born, until they retired in 1949 to their new house in St. Ansgar.

Hattie's mother, Mrs. Louise Kroneman, made her home with them for 11 years prior to her death in 1932.

The Steinbergs had no children of their own, buy took three children from the Lutheran Children's Home at Waverly, whom they loved and cared for until they were graduated from high schoool. Johnny Miller, now of Minneapolis, joined the Navy following his graduation and made it his career. Johnny and his wife Virginia also had no children of their own and knowing the love the Steinbergs had shown for him, they adopted seven children.

Audrey and Frances Fratzke came to the Steinberg home as little girls, to spend a Christmas vacation, from the Lutheran Children's Home, and when the two weeks had passed they were so attached to each other they stayed on until they too had finished high school. Audrey is now Mrs. Eddie Clinton and lives in Quinlan, Texas. Frances is married to Kenneth Buenneke and also lives in the Dallas, Texas area.

Mr. and Mrs. Steinberg faithfully participated in the activities of St. John's Lutheran Church as long as their health permitted. She particularly enjoyed working with the members of A.L.C.W. and the associating with her old friends and neighbors.

She was a devoted wife and gave her husband loving care as his health failed in later years. They observed their 60th wedding anniversary last May.

On April 9th, 1972 Hattie suffered a stroke and was hopitalized for the first time in her life. Her husband becasme a resident of the Good Samaritan Cetner on the same day. Following a four day stay at the kospital she too entered the nursing home. Her health improved somewhat, but on November 10th she suffered another stroke and passed away on November 12, 1972.

She is survived by her husband, 22 nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents, two sisters and two brothers.

Blessed be those who die in the Lord.

Funeral services were conducted on November 15 [1972] at St. John's Lutheran Church with Rev. Elmer Jacobs officiating. Interment was in St. John's Cemetery.
