Gilma Hendrickson funeral held at Deer Creek Church
Funeral services for Gilma Leonora Hendrickson, 95, of Northwood, who died Sunday, March 19, 2000 at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center, were held Thursday, March 23 at the Deer Creek Lutheran Church, Carpenter, with the Reverend Kathy Larson officiating.
Gilma Leonora Hendrickson was born on February 6, 1905, in Deer Creek Thowship, Worth County, Iowa, to Lena and Hans Hanson. She was baptized February 23, 1905 and confirmed December 26, 1919 by Reverend M. E. Waldeland at the Deer Creek Lutheran Church. She remained a life long member of the church, participating in all the women’s activities.
She attended rural school and graduated from Northwood High School in May of 1923. She taught school in Barton and Deer Creek Townships.
Gilma married Irving Hendrickson on September 15, 1926 in St. Ansgar. Three children were born to them, Ivadene, Horace and Marcella. They farmed in Deer Creek Township until her husband’s death in 1954. She remained on the farm with her son who had taken over the farming. She moved to Northwood in March of 1971 and lived there until June of 1997 when she became a resident at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center.
Gilma’s many talents included embroidery work and crocheting afghans, many of which were shared as gifts.
Gilma is survived by one son, Horace and wife Ann of Northwood; two daughters, Ivadene Dale of San Jose, California and Marcella Olson and husband Rondald of Apple Valley, Minnesota; four grandchildren, Jane (Dale) Ford and husband John of Millbrae, California; Susan (Sale) Cadile and husband Matthew of San Jose, California; Karin (Olson) Harrison and husband Christopher of LaMesa, California; and Nathan Olson of Falcon Heights, Minnesota; three great grandchildren, Christopher and Sarah Ford and Taylor Cadile; a brother Roy Hanson of St. Ansgar; several nieces and nephews and her life long friend Mabel Spilde.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Irving, two brothers, Mervin Hanson and Alfred Hanson.
Burial was in the London-Deer Creek Cemetery, rural Northwood.
