Minnie Ostenson Funeral Held At First Lutheran

Funeral services for Minnie S. Ostenson, 69, who died at the Mitchell County Hospital, Osage, November 3, 1967, were held May at the First Lutheran Church with the Reverend D. Comnick officiating.

Minnie Sophie Ostenson was born June 25, 1886 in Nevade Township east of Lyle, the oldest daughter of John and Amelia Ostenson.

She was the third child in a family of seven children. Beside her parents, the oldest sister, Mrs. T. A. Thompson of St. Ansgar and her only brother Alfred preceded her in death.

Miss Ostenson was baptized & confirmed by the Reverend J. Mueller Eggen at the Six Mile Grove Lutheran Church. When she moved with the family to Lyle in 1919 she attended church regularly until 1945 when she moved with her sisters to St. Ansgar. Although she could not be a teacher like her sisters, she tried to make up for it by doing a good job of housekeeping for her parents, and later for the sisters who appreciated her faithfulness.

During the past years she suffered from arthritis, but seldom complained and found comfort in the visits and spiritual food provided by her pastor, as well as religious programs on radio & TV. Last December she was hospitalized for pneumonia and heart trouble and never fully recovered.

On April 24 she fell and sustained a fractured hip, which with other complications caused her death May 3.

Minnie is survived by four sisters, Mrs. A. B. (Lillian) Pederson of Mound, Minnesota, Mrs. R. B. (Esther) Hammond of Radcliffe, and Elsie and Cora of St. Ansgar and many nieces and nephews.

At the funeral services Wm. Groth sang two songs, one being the English version of the Norwegian song, Den Slorre Flak, which he sang at her father’s funeral at Lyle in 1923.

Burial was at Six Mile Grove Cemetery with Reverend Comnick in charge of the committal service. Pallbearers with two exceptions were former pupils of the Pinehurst country school which she attended.
