ORCHARD, Iowa - Charles H. Chandler, 76, of 3154 Mitchell Line St. in Orchard, died Sunday evening, (April 15, 2007) at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday (April 19, 2007) at the Colwell United Church of Christ, 1403 Colwell Ave. in Colwell, with Pastor Randy Nielson officiating. Cremation has taken place with Cremation Services of North in the care of Fullerton Funeral Home in Mason City. Private family scattering will take place at a later date.
The family will have a memorial gathering and greet relatives and friends from 5 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday (April 18, 2007) at the Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., in Charles City. The memorial gathering will continue one hour prior to Chuck’s services on Thursday at the church.

Charles Herbert Chandler was born July 3, 1930 in Kansas City, Missouri, to Philip “Pete” and Marie (Gray) Chandler. He attended and graduated from Roosevelt High School in Cedar Rapids, IA, class of 1948. Chuck as he was affectionately known by family and friends, furthered his education attending the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa, graduating in 1952, having earned a degree in Business. On July 25, 1953 Chuck was united in marriage to Joan Schmidt at St. John Lutheran Church in Charles City, Iowa.
Charles was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. The couple had moved to this area in 1955 from Kalona, IA. He had been a farmer throughout his life, milking dairy cows, raising livestock and growing a variety of crops. He had a great passion for sailing at the family summer home on Lake Leelanau and Grand Traverse Bay in Michigan, gardening, and a tremendous love for the outdoors and nature. Chuck was also a bird watcher, an avid reader, had a very inquisitive mind and liked doing research and completing weed identification. He loved caring for his family and took great pride in all that he accomplished.
He will be best remembered as a man who was very loving, gentle, patient and always having a positive outlook on life. Chuck took great joy in listening to classical music.
Chuck will be dearly missed by his family and friends and remembered to everyone who knew him as a best friend.
Grateful for having had the privilege of sharing in Chuck’s life are his loving and devoted wife of 53 years, Joan Chandler of Orchard; his three children, Vici (Gerald “Gerry”) MacLean of Lone Jack, MO, Joe (Sybil) Chandler of Bonner Springs, MO, and Matt Chandler and his special friend, Mary Heddens of Charles City; seven grandchildren, one great-grandson; one sister, Judi Hoerner of Shaker Heights, OH; two brothers, Rick (Judy) Chandler of Cedar Rapids, IA and Steve (Elaine) Chandler of Ft. Meyers, FL; as well as several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Philip “Pete” and Marie (Gray) Chandler.
