Funeral services were conducted at the First Lutheran church at 2:30 Sunday afternoon, March 24, for T.O. Bakken of Minneapolis. The Rev. O.A. Langehough was in charge of the services with burial in the First Lutheran Cemetery.
Thore O. Bakken passed away on March 21, 1946 at his home, 4149 Elliot Avenue South, Minneapolis, at the age of 90 years and 4 months. He died following an illness of a few days duration. The infirmities of old age, however, had confined him to his home for several years.
Thore Bakken, the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Ole Bakken, was born on the Bakken farm near Ossian, Iowa, November 22, 1855. Here he grew to manhood and on May 19, 1880, was united in marriage to Anna Malena Matson, which union lasted for about 66 years.
In 1891 the family moved to St. Ansgar where they resided for 26 years. For a short time thereafter they made their home on a farm near Buffalo, North Dakota, later on moving to Minneapolis, their present home.
Mr. Bakken is survived by his wife and six children, Marie, Olava and Rebecca of Minneapolis, Agnes, now Mrs. Cornell Riveland of Luana, Iowa, Sarah, now Mrs. Axel Isakson, of Cokato, Minnesota, and Oliver T. Bakken of Excelsor, Minnesota. Also 9 grandchildren and two great grandchildren survive.
Mr. Bakken was baptized and confirmed in the Norwegian Lutheran church and continued true in this faith until his death. He received his education in the rural school and later attended Upper Iowa University.
Being an active church member, as long as he was able, he was especially interested in the advancement of Christian education, to which cause he gave generously.
