OSAGE, IOWA - Donald A. Fredericks, age 84, of Osage, died Friday, December 18, 2009, at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22, at the First United Methodist Church in Osage, with the Rev. Les Johnson officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date. Visitation is from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.

Don was born on June 15, 1925, on a farm near Hampton, the son of Albert and Nellie (Sherer) Fredericks. He attended high school in Geneva, and graduated from Hamilton Business College in Mason City.

Don married Marlese Lenz on June 27, 1948, at the Grace Methodist Church in Mason City. They made their home in various communities in North Iowa. Don and Marlese moved to Rantoul, Ill., when Don's place of employment, Caracdo Windows and Doors, relocated there. He retired in 1990. They lived in Rantoul for 35 years until moving to Osage in October of 2008 to be closer to family and friends.

Don was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Rantoul where he served as treasurer, trustee, and superintendent of Sunday School. He was also a member of Toastmasters and Traffic Club. Don's interests and hobbies included trains, gardening, counted cross-stitch, and word search puzzles.

Don is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marlese Fredericks of Osage; three children, Susan (Rev. Les) Johnson of Plymouth, Ind., Steven Fredericks of Sante Fe, N.M., Carol (Stephen) Schneider of Tonganoxie, Kansas; five grandchildren, Matthew Johnson, Melissa Klinger, Andrew Schneider, Brandi Fredericks, and Zac Fredericks; one great-grandson, Landon Scott Klinger; one brother, Gerald (Donna) Fredericks of Osage; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
