Frederic Stearns, 33, of Osage died at a hospital in Mason City at 10 a.m. Thursday from injuries suffered in an automobile collision in which four others were injured a mile and a half east of Osage at 11:30 a. am. Wednesday.
Dr. Stearns suffered head and chest injuries and was brought to the hospital here after first aid at the Mitchell County Memorial hospital at Osage.
Supt. and Mrs. Lester B. Bredeson and two children of Little Cedar also were taken to the hospital at Osage, and later Mrs. Bredeson and son, William, 4, were taken to Mercy hospital.
Found Unconscious
Highway patrolman said Stearns was unconscious when he arrived, and was lying in the ditch where he had been thrown from his car near the Bredeson car which was overturned. The Stearns car was crosswise of the road, and both vehicles were badly damaged.
Dr. Stearns was a son of the late Fred and Sadie (Tupper) Stearns, prominent Osage family.
He was graduated from Osage High School, Carleton college, Northfield, Minn., and the University of Iowa school of medicine and was interned at Oklahoma City, Okla.He took special training in obstetrics at Chicago and at Johns Hopkins, Baltimore, Md. While in school he was prominent in athletics, but at Northfield, Minn., he suffered arthritis which made it necessary for him to return home to convalesce before he could resume his school work. Since that time he had been afflicted with arthritis.
Never Married
Dr. Stearns never married. He was prominent in community affairs, was a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary club, the Sunny Brae Country Club and was active in tuberculosis and cancer campaigns.
He is survived by a brother, William, of Battle Creek, Mich., and 3 sisters, Maizie Grace
Stearns, Mrs. Claire French and Mrs. B. A. Bradford, all of Osage.At Osage he practiced in partnership with Drs. John and Merrill Eiel since 1946.
Supt. Bredeson and daughter, Mary were dismissed from the Osage hospital and the other patients were reported doing nicely.

Rites to Be Saturday
for Car Crash VictimOsage, Iowa — A memorial is being planned for Dr. Frederic Stearns 33, who died Thursday from injuries suffered in an automobile crash near here the day before.
Because of Dr. Stearns' active work in promoting plans for the Mitchell county Memorial hospital the memorial to the doctor may center on some phase of the hospital development.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p. m. at the Congregational church in Osage, with the Rev. George Stemm of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Osage, in charge. Burial will be in the family lot in Osage cemetery.

Osage, Iowa — Dr. Frederic Stearns, 33, of Osage, died at 10 a.m., Thursday, in Mercy hospital at Mason City of injuries he suffered in
an accident involving two cars on highways 218 and 9, a mile and half east of Csage at 11 a.m. Wednesday.Four others were injured in the accident.
Dr. Stearns suffered a fractured skull, internal and other injuries.
Dr. Stearns was returning from a call at New Haven when his car collided with a machine driven by Supt. Lester B. Bredeson of the Little Cedar schools, who was accompanied by his wife and their two children, Mary and William.
Superintendent Bredeson and his daughter have been discharged from the Osage hospital. Mrs. Bredeson and the boy, who has a broken arm, are still in Mercy, hospital, but are recovering satisfactorily.
Dr. Stearns was graduated from Osage high school, attended Carleton college at Northfield, Minn., and was graduated from the college of medicine at University of Iowa.
Dr. Stearns interned at City hospital at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and took special training in obstetrics at Chicago and at Johns-Hopkins medical school at Baltimore, Maryland. He had been at Osage since 1946, and was associated in practice with Drs. John O. and Merrill Eiel. He had planned to engage in practice alone elsewhere.
He was a member of the Rotary club and Sunny Brae Country club and of the Chamber of Commerce. Dr. Stearns also was active in the programs of the state cancer and tuberculosis associations.
Surviving are one brother, William, Battle Creek, Michigan; three sisters, Maizie Grace Stearns, Mrs. Claire French and Mrs. Bea Bradford, all of Osage, and his paternal grandfather, Fred Stearns, living in Minnesota.
His parents, Frederic and Sadie (Tupper) Stearns, preceded him in death.
The body was brought to the Champion funeral home here.
