Olaf K. Klemesrud, 1898-1946
Olaf K. Klemesrud, son of Harald and Ingeborg (Maakestad) Klemesrud, was born in Cedar Township, Mitchell County, Iowa on February 15, 1898. He was baptized in the Rock Creek Lutheran Church in 1898 and confirmed in 1913. He attended the Cedar Township schools and was graduated from Waldorf College in Forest City, after which time he came to Osage where he was employed in a hardware store. During this time he was married to Marguerite Kofstad. The couple had one son, James, who now resides on the home farm. His first wife died in 1931.
Following a period of seven years at Rudd, where he was cashier in the Farmers State Bank, he moved to the home farm for eight years. On June 10, 1945, he was married to Mae Williams. The couple made their home in Meroa where they managed the Meroa store until recently. They moved to Osage two weeks ago and lived in the parental Klemesrud home. During his life, Olaf served on various church committees and was township assessor for several years.
Olaf Klemesrud, 48, died at the home of his mother, Mrs. Ingeborg Klemesrud, in Osage, Iowa, on Thursday evening, June 6, 1946.
He leaves the following survivors to mourn his passing: his wife, Mae; his mother, Mrs. Ingeborg Klemesrud; three grand children; four brothers: Herbert of Nora Springs, Clarence of Osage, Theodore of Thompson, IA; and Loren of Waterloo; three sisters: Lillie, at home, and Ruth and Eleanor of Evanston, IL. Also surviving are three stepchildren: Mrs. Lawrence (Evelyn) Dieterich and Betty Williams of St. Ansgar, and Mrs. Gordon (Beverly) Allison of Waterloo; and one step-grandchild.
Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon, June 9, 1946 at the Champion Funeral Home and the Rock Creek Lutheran Church. The Rev. S.O. Sorlien conducted the services. Burial was in the Rock Creek cemetery.
