Funeral services for Manvil Ask, age 93, of Osage, Iowa, were held Saturday, Nov. 26, 2005, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, with Pastor Gary Gilbert officiating.
Burial was at the Osage Cemetery in Osage. Manvil died Thursday, November 24, 2005, at the Stacyville Community Nursing Home in Stacyville.
Manvil was born April 1, 1912, in his parents home in rural Osage, the son of Wilhelm Bernhard and Bertha Marie (Rossum) Ask. Manvil received his education in the Mitchell County Schools. He furthered his education at a trade school in Cleveland, Ohio. After working nearly one year in a garage in Cleveland, "the depression" hit and Manvil returned to his parents' home to help on the farm. He drove a livestock truck for Guy Buttolph for several years before beginning his career in farming.
On June 14, 1940, Manvil was united in marriage to Dorcas L. Shelledy. They made their home in rural Osage and were blessed with three children. He was a gifted mechanic who helped neighbors with machinery breakdowns.
Manvil was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Truman; his sister, Myrtle; as well as sisters and brothers-in-law.
Manvil is survived by his wife, Dorcas of Osage; sons, Dick (Beth) Ask of Rochester, Minnesota, and Don (Judy) Ask of St. Ansgar; daughter, LuAnn (Neil Tibbetts) of Cedar Rapids; grandsons, Mike (Carol) Ask of Mesa, Arizona, Greg (Kimber) Ask of Longmont, Colo., Jeremy (Brenda) Ask of Canton, S.D.; and granddaughter, Gina (Eric) Goddard of Osage. Also surviving are six great-grandchildren Michael, Maddisyn, Tasmyn, Kale, Bodie, and Carson.
Manvil is also survived by step-granddaughters Lisa Brenno, Michelle (Todd) Pyfferoen, and Krista Brenno, and step-great-grandchildren Ashley, Allen, Alicia, and Trevor.
Arrangements were made by Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home (641)732-3706.
