Hubert "Hub" Thorsen

OSAGE, IOWA - Hubert "Hub" Thorsen, 85, of Osage died Tuesday (Nov. 24, 2009) at his home in Osage.

Hub was born Nov. 5, 1924, in Osage, the son of Clarence and Olga (Havig) Thorsen. Hub attended school in Osage and graduated from Osage High School in 1942.

In 1943, Hub was inducted into the United States Army. He served on the USS Hope and the USS Mercy Hospital Ships throughout the South Pacific and was honorably discharged in 1945.

Hub was united in marriage to Wanda Murphy on Feb. 15, 1946, at the Little Brown Church. They made their home in Osage. Hub worked as a postal clerk for the United States Postal Service for 38 years. He was a Scoutmaster for over 20 years. Hub enjoyed fishing, gardening and woodworking.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 30, 2009, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage with the Rev. Dennis Hanson and the Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Inurnment will be in the Osage Cemetery in Osage with military honors at the grave by Osage V.F.W. Post 7920.

There will be a gathering of family and friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.

Hub is survived by his wife, Wanda Thorsen, of Osage; two sons, John Thorsen of Hebron, Neb., and Bill (Karen) Thorsen, of Brighton, Mich.; two daughters, Janet (Jim) Grinstead of Osage and Shirley Van Scoyoc of Moore, Okla.; four grandchildren, Krista Thorsen, Angele Bryant, Bunky Cabirac and Douglas Van Scoyoc; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Sonia Thorsen of Rockford, Ill., and Ruby Hawke of Dumont.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ray and Russ; two sisters, Marge Heusman and Harriett Naden; one granddaughter; and one great-granddaughter.
