Obituary of Mrs. A. H. Groth
by T.A. Groth and M.A. HougKjirsti Jacobson Asleson, the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Asleson, was born June 17, 1834 in Hoel, Hallingdal, Norway. She was baptized and started preparing herself for confirmation which she did not complete in Norway as she emigrated to the United States with her parents in 1849, and located in Rock County, Wisconsin. He she was confirmed in 1849 by Reverend C. L. Clausen.
She came to St. Ansgar in the spring of 1953, with the Reverend Clausen colony, and settled on the farm which is now occupied by Adolph Groth and sisters.
Kjirsti Jacobson Aleson was married on September 28, 1854, to Assor Halstenson Groth, who passed away October 31, 1907, same being the second wedding performed by Reverend Clausen in the St. Ansgar congregation. This union was blessed with thirteen children, of which six daughters passed away at an early age. Her oldest son, Jacob A. Groth, died on October 23, 1925. During these 74 years Mrs. Broth has lived on the old homestead continually.
On Sunday, September 25, 1904, Mr. and Mrs. Groth had the great pleasure of celebrating their golden wedding anniversary, this being the first golden wedding celebration in the history of the St. Ansgar congregation.
Mrs. Groth has enjoyed excellent health during her long life, being active and strong until the last four months. She passed away very quietly at 7 o'clock Monday evening, March 21, 1927, at the age of ninety-two years, nine months and four days. Her husband's age at his death was niety-two years, nine months and ten days. At her death she lacked only six days of having reached this age. Mrs. Groth died happy and in peace, trusting fully in the fogiveness of sin and in eternal life in Christ her Savior.
Mrs. Groth is survived by six children, all situated so they could be present at her deathbed. Twenty grandchildren and one great grandchild also mourn her loss. The names of the surviving children are: Mrs. Helene Houg, Halsten A. Groth, Andrew A. Groth, Torkel A. Groth, Mrs. N.G. Tollefson and Anton C. Groth.

Larson, Ossian; Emmet Groth, Minneapolis; Alton Groth, Iowa City; Aliee Groth, Marble Rock; Ada Tollefson, Tama.
