Funeral services were held Friday afternoon for Mrs. Bertha Ask, 85, an Osage resident, who died June 14, 1967, at Faith Home. Mrs. Ask, a former music teacher in Osage, was ill for several months prior to her death.
The Rev. LaVern Hanson, pastor of Trinity Lutheran church in Mason City , was in charge of the services at the Champion Funeral Home. Burial was at First Lutheran cemetery in St. Ansgar.
Bertha Gaarder was born Oct. 6, 1881, at Albany, Wis., the eldest of the seven children born to Ellef and Gunnild Levorson Gaarder. She was baptized and confirmed at the Lutheran church at Albany, and attended school there, majoring in music.
Jan. 22, 1903, she was united in marriage to Lauritz Alfred Ask of Meroa, Mitchell county, Iowa. They remained residents of this community for many years, retiring to Mason City in 1948.
Mrs. Ask was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran church in Osage for many years and at the time of her death was affiliated with Trinity Lutheran in Mason City. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church Women and circles of both churches.
Preceding Mrs. Ask in death were her husband, Alfred; her parents; two brothers, Syver and Edward Gaarder; and three sisters, Mrs. Carl Golberg, Mrs. Leonard Knudson and Ida Gaarder.
Surviving are one brother, Henry Gaarder of Osage, and several nieces and nephews.
