Harriet E. Brown, 1819-1903

In the death of Mrs. Harriet E. Brown, which occurred at her home in this city, last Saturday, June 6th, the community has lost a worthy and old time resident, a gentlewoman, blessed with many attributes of a true and noble character. The promise, "Thou shalt come to thy grace in full age" has been fulfilled in her life and death.

She had not been in robust health for some time but was able to go about and attend to her household duties and on Thursday to attend to some business up town, and called at the office of her physician. On Friday, while writing to a friend, she was taken suddenly very ill with what her physician has termed apoplexy, and Saturday forenoon the end came peacefully.

Mrs. Brown was born in Connecticut, Nov. 13, 1819. She was married to Mr. W.N. Brown, in 1869, in Northfield, Minnesota, where she was postmistress. Soon after they moved to a farm near Burr Oak, afterward to what is now
known as the Webster farm, and in '85 they moved to Osage where Mr. Brown sold machinery. About fourteen years ago her husband died, since which time she has live alone. She was a great reader and her mind was well stored with intelligent facts and history of the world's doings. She was a conscientious member of the Christiadelphian belief and her funeral service which was held at her home Monday afternoon was conducted by Mr. Pattengill who is leader of that church in this place. He read the portions of scripture Mrs. Brown loved, and spoke of the coming of Christ's kingdom which she looked for.

Mrs. Brown has two sisters in Connecticut but they were too feeble to come. There are no relatives present but loving friends, those who had known her best in life gathered about her casket bringing floral tributes in memory of her worthy life. She was laid to rest beside her husband in our beautiful cemetery to await the resurrection morn.
