Mrs. Nathan N. Patterson,
An Aged Pioneer,
Passed Away Wednesday,
December 26, 1928With the passing of Mrs. Nathan N. Patterson, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Levi Gifford, two miles east of St. Ansgar, a pioneer resident of Mitchell County has gone to her reward.
Wednesday afternoon, December 26th, she fell into a dreamless sleep, calmly and peacefully fading away into eternity. She was ill but a short time. A patient sufferer, she was ready to serv all earthly ties at the will of the Omnipotent One.
Elizabeth** Anne Atherton was born in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, in the year of 1852. At the age of eight years, in March, 1960, she came with her parents to West Mitchell. The family later moving to Osage, where, on June 18, 1872, she was married to Nathan N. Patterson. The greater part of her life was spent on a farm at Patterson’s corners.
Mr. Patterson preceded her in death two years ago. She was a faithful helpmate, a loving mother and her home she idolized.
To mourn her loss she is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Levi Gifford of St. Ansgar, and Mrs. Warren Wing of Minneapolis, two sons, Isaac Patterson of Rochester, Minnesota, and Thos. Patterson of Burbank, Colorado, one sister, Mrs. J.E.H. Long of Philadelphia, two brothers, Frank G. Atherton of Clear lake and Thos. M. Atherton of Osage.
Funeral services were held Monday, December 31, 1928, at one-thirty at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Levi Gifford, conducted by Mrs. Baker. Interment was in the Osage Cemetery.

There were here from away to attend the funeral of Mrs. Nathan Patterson, Her son, Isaac, of Rochester, Minnesota, her daughter, Mrs. W.A. Wing, and husband, of Minneapolis, Her brothers, F.G. Atherton, and wife of Clear Lake, and T.M. Atherton, and wife, of Osage, also her younger sister, Mrs. J.E.J. Long, and husband of Granite City, Illinois, Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Patterson were here several days before her death helping to care for her but Mrs. Patterson was called away before the funeral on account of the serious illness of her brother at Austin.[St. Ansgar Enterprise, 1928 – St. Ansgar Museum Collection]
---------------------------** Apparently the obituary was in error, as her name is really Lillian. Elizabeth is the name of her daughter, Mr. Levi Gifford.
Lillian "Lillie" A. (Atherton) Patterson born October 1852, the daughter of Thomas Mitchell Atherton and Ella Beth (Gilmore) Atherton. She married Nathan Patterson, the son of James Patterson and Hannah (Quick) Patterson.
