Rites Held Monday at First LutheranFuneral services for Miss Clara Groth, 81, who died at the St. Ansgar [Iowa] Good Samaritan Center Friday March 25, 1966, were held Monday, March 28, at the First Lutheran church with the Rev. Don Comnick officiating.
Clara Julia Groth was born November 17, 1884 at the old Groth homestead north of St. Ansgar, the daughter of Jacob and Cecelia (Halstenson) Groth.
She was baptized January 1, 1885 and confirmed June 11, 1899 at the First Lutheran church here by the Rev. Johan Olsen.
Miss Groth received her early education at the Clyde school and later attended the St. Ansgar Seminary. She remained at home and assisted in the care of her aged grandmother and helped her parents on the farm. Following the death of the parents, Clara and her sister Alma, were both mother and father to the rest of the family devoting their lives to the welfare of others.
In 1930 Clara and Alma moved to their home in St. Ansgar. Clara was a lifelong member of First Lutheran church and was active in the women's organizations of the church. She was honored with a life membership in First Lutheran Church Women, and her special interest was her Circle.
She was a charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary in St. Ansgar, and was an active member of this organization.
Miss Groth became ill December 7, 1965, and was taken to the Mitchell County Memorial hospital, Osage, and later transferred to the Good Samaritan Center here where she died at the age of 81 years, four months and eight days.
Miss Groth was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Adolph. She is survived by her sister, Alma, at home; two brothers, Joseph C. Groth of Austin, Minn. and William A. Groth of St. Ansgar; three nieces, Mrs. Vernon Wilkerson of Washington, D.C.; Mrs. Kenneth Peterson, Rockford, Ill. and Miss Janet Groth, New York, N. Y.; three nephews; William J. Groth, Independence, Joseph C. Jr. Houston, Tex. and Gaylord Groth, Minneapolis.
Burial was in First Lutheran cemetery with Rev. Comnick in charge of the committal services.
