Funeral Rites Held For Mrs. Mae Duenow

Death Takes Mrs. Duenow Suddenly
Deceased was 47 Years of Age

Mae Amelia Dippell Duenow was born on May 5, 1892, at Ackley, Iowa, and died at her home in Union Township on October 5, 1939. She was the daughter of Edward and Mary Dippell. Her parents moved to Union Township. Mitchell County, in the fall of 1892.

She was educated in the schools of Union township. She was confirmed in the Union Presbyterian Church and for over 30 ears was a faithful member there, active in the Ladies Aid Society and for many years an organist in the church.

On October 12, 1913, she was united in marriage to Frank F. Duenow. They established their home on the farm east of Toeterville, where she resided until her passing on. Her life was saddened by the death of her husband on March 1, 1934. Notwithstanding this misfortune she was determined to keep their home intact and educate her children. She valiantly took over her greater responsibilities and successfully operated the farm in a manner that would have been a credit to any man. She was admired by her many friends and neighbors for her courage in carrying on in the face of adversity, for her perseverance in following out the plans of her husband, and for the helpfulness to others in time of need. Truly she was a valiant mother equal to any pioneer mother in our memory.

She was preceded in death by her mother on September 1, 1932, by her husband on March 1, 1934, and her sister, Anna Trettin on June 15, 1939.

She is survived by two children, Merle Norman, aged 19 years, and Darlene Marie, aged 12 years, their father, Edward Dippell, two brothers, Albert of Los Angeles and Louis of Union Township and many other relatives and friends.

Her departure is deeply mourned by her relatives and many friends Her kindliness to others and her valor will always be remembered.

Max Duenow, Carol Duenow, Albert Duenow, Walter Duenow, Ray Duenow and Walter Wagner, six cousins of the deceased husband, served as pallbearers. They served in the same capacity at her husband’s funeral. Services were held at the Union Presbyterian Church with Reverend Proell officiating and interment was in the St. Ansgar Cemetery.
