Funeral services will be held today, Wednesday, November 28, 2001, 11 am at Trinity Lutheran Church, Mason City, for Esther Caroline Pederson, age 102. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 8 pm on Tuesday evening at Major Erickson's Funeral Home, Mason City. She died Saturday, November 24, 2001 at Good Shepherd Health Center.
Esther was born June 27, 1899 in Koszta, Iowa the daughter of Sam and Sophia (Bender) Ransom. She was baptized in the Missouri Synod Church in Luzerne, Iowa. She moved with her parents to a farm near Marietta, MN in 1903.
She married John Martin Pederson on March 27, 1918. To this union two sons were born Warren Keith and Wayne Marlyn. Esther and Martin lived on various farms in Cerro Gordo and Mitchell Counties. They worked side by side planting crops and raising livestock. Every spring until her death, she would talk about how she missed raising chickens.
Esther spent many enjoyable hours crocheting afghans and doilies for her family and friends. She was also well know for her good cooking, especially for her homemade buns. Esther was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City, secretary/treasurer for the Gray Ladies of Nora Springs for 22 years, Sunshine Circle Sewing Group and Elizabeth Circle.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Martin in Dec. 1974; two sons, Warren in Oct. 1963 and Wayne, Feb. 2000; one grandson, Bruce Pederson; two brothers, Arnold and Cort; two sisters, Ada and Lola; and two infant sisters.
Those that survive her include one daughter-in-law, Beanie Pederson of Lexington, KY; three grandchildren, John Pederson and wife Sue of Nora Springs, Mark Pederson and wife Marsha of Effingham, IL, Marsha Angell and husband Kurt of Osage; seven great-grandchildren, Tonia Land and her husband Eric of Houston, TX, Allison Pederson of Clear Lake, Matt Pederson and fiancee Cara Harp of Iowa City, Michael Pederson of Cedar Falls, Tiffany Angell of Osage, Luke Pederson of Nora Springs and Adam Angell of Osage; and one great-great-granddaughter, Kylie Avise of Clear Lake.
Esther was a very important part of her grandchildren's lives and will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
Memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church, Mason City.

MASON CITY, IOWA - Esther C. Pederson, 102, of 324 Second St. N.E. died Saturday (Nov. 24, 2001) at the Good Shepherd Health Care.
Her funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave. with the Rev. Samuel Hamilton-Poore officiating. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. and one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church.
Memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church.
